Most people cannot do it. Not because they lack willpower. Because their brains were not built for it.
The human brain burns roughly twenty percent of the body's total energy at rest, despite accounting for only two percent of body weight [1]. And the region responsible for deep focus, the prefrontal cortex, is the most metabolically expensive real estate in the entire organ. Sustaining attention on a single target is not the brain's natural state. Mind-wandering is.
